Privacy Policy

Talkie is a communication aid for people living with ALS, people who are non-speaking, or who have difficulty speaking. Your privacy is our priority: Talkie has no server, and everything is processed on your device except the two optional services in section 3, which only you can enable.

1. Data We Collect and How

• Conversation transcripts — produced by iOS speech recognition running on the device. Stored only on your device (last 20 exchanges at most).
• Profile, memory and username — information you enter (interests, loved ones, notes) and learned memory extracted from your conversations by the on-device AI model. Stored locally; you can view, edit or delete it at any time.
• Speakers — names and relationships you give to the people who talk to you. Stored locally.
• Speaker voiceprints — to know who is talking, Talkie computes on the device a numeric representation of each speaker's voice (a vector of numbers, not an audio recording). They stay only on your device, are never transmitted, and can be erased at any time (Settings ▸ "Delete all speakers").
• ElevenLabs and Anthropic API keys — voluntarily provided by the user. Stored in the iOS Keychain.
• Voice samples — audio files of your voice that you import for voice cloning. Sent to ElevenLabs only at your request, after consent, then deleted from the device once the voice is created.
• Microphone audio — processed in real time on the device for transcription and speaker recognition. Audio is never recorded or transmitted.

2. How We Use Data

• Transcripts, profile, memory and speaker names — give the AI model context to suggest fitting replies (can be turned off: Settings ▸ "Personalize suggestions").
• Voiceprints — recognize which speaker is talking, especially in "Group" mode.
• Message text — if ElevenLabs is enabled, text to be spoken is sent to ElevenLabs to be converted to audio in your voice.
• Voice samples — create your cloned voice at ElevenLabs, at your request.

3. Third-Party Sharing

Apple Intelligence (default, on-device)

Reply suggestions are generated by Apple Intelligence entirely on your device. No data leaves your iPhone for this processing.

ElevenLabs, Inc. (optional)

Enabled only by the user, after a dedicated consent screen. Data sent: the text of messages to be spoken and, for cloning, samples of your voice. See ElevenLabs' privacy policy.

Anthropic, PBC — Claude (optional)

If you enable "Claude suggestions" and enter your own API key, suggestions are generated by Claude instead of the on-device model. In that case Anthropic receives: the other person's last sentence, the latest exchanges and, if "Personalize suggestions" is on, your profile and memory. These requests use your Anthropic account and are processed under Anthropic's privacy policy. Off by default.

No other third party

Apart from these two optional services, Talkie does not share, sell or transmit any personal data.

4. Biometric and Facial Data

Talkie does not access the camera and collects no facial data. Voice data processed: speaker voiceprints (computed and kept only on the device, never transmitted) and, if you ask for it, samples of your voice sent to ElevenLabs for cloning.

5. Data Retention

• Transcripts — last 20 exchanges; older ones are deleted automatically.
• Profile, memory, speakers and voiceprints — on the device until you delete them.
• API keys — in the iOS Keychain until deleted.
• Voice samples — deleted from the device once the cloned voice is created. The created voice stays in your ElevenLabs account, where you can delete it.
• Microphone audio — not recorded.

6. What We Do NOT Do

• No Talkie server: your data stays on your device (except the optional services above).
• No analytics, telemetry or advertising.
• No cross-app tracking.
• No sale of data.

7. Microphone and Calls

The microphone is used for transcription and speaker recognition, on the device. During a phone call, Talkie does not listen to the call (iOS doesn't allow it); it can only add the phrases you choose to speak.

8. Deleting Your Data

Settings ▸ "Reset application" immediately and permanently deletes history, profile, memory, speakers, voiceprints and both API keys. Settings ▸ "Delete all speakers" deletes only speakers and their voiceprints.

9. Children

Talkie is not intended for children under 13.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy; the date above will change accordingly.
