Privacy Policy

Talkie is a communication aid app for people living with ALS, people who are non-speaking, or who have difficulty speaking. Your privacy is our priority.

1. Data We Collect and How We Collect It

• Username — entered by the user during setup. Stored only on your device (localStorage), used to personalize AI suggestions.
• Conversation transcripts — automatically generated by on-device speech recognition. Stored only on your device (localStorage, last 20 exchanges maximum). Never sent to an external server.
• Patient memory — personal notes manually entered by the user. Stored locally (localStorage), used to contextualize AI suggestions.
• Learned memory — information automatically extracted from your conversations by the on-device AI model. Stored locally (localStorage). You can view, edit, or delete it at any time.
• ElevenLabs API key — voluntarily provided by the user in advanced settings. Stored securely in the iOS Keychain. Used only to authenticate ElevenLabs API calls.
• Voice samples — recorded by the user via the microphone or imported from audio files. Stored locally on the device. Sent to ElevenLabs only when the user explicitly initiates voice cloning and after consent is given.
• Microphone audio data — captured in real time by the microphone for speech recognition (Web Speech API). Audio is processed on-device and is never recorded, stored, or transmitted to an external server.

2. How We Use Your Data

Each type of data is used exclusively for the following purposes:

• Username — personalizing AI responses generated on-device.
• Transcripts and memory — providing conversational context to the on-device AI model (Apple Intelligence) to generate relevant response suggestions.
• ElevenLabs API key — authenticating text-to-speech and voice cloning requests with ElevenLabs.
• Message text — when ElevenLabs is enabled, the text to be spoken is sent to ElevenLabs servers to be converted into audio (text-to-speech synthesis).
• Voice samples — when voice cloning is initiated by the user, audio samples are sent to ElevenLabs servers to create a cloned voice.
• Microphone audio data — on-device speech-to-text transcription.

3. Third-Party Data Sharing

ElevenLabs, Inc. (optional — enabled only by the user)

ElevenLabs is the only third-party service with which personal data may be shared. This sharing is entirely optional and requires:

• Manual activation of the feature by the user in the app settings.
• Explicit user consent through a dedicated consent screen before any data is sent.

Data shared with ElevenLabs:

• The text of messages to be spoken (for text-to-speech synthesis).
• Audio samples of your voice (for voice cloning only).

Talkie does not retain any copy of data sent to ElevenLabs. ElevenLabs processes this data in accordance with its own privacy policy, which provides equivalent protections for data security and privacy.

Apple Intelligence (iOS 26+)

Response suggestions are generated by Apple Intelligence, an AI model that runs entirely on your device. Before first use, Talkie displays an in-app consent screen detailing the data used (transcripts, memory, profile). No data leaves your iPhone or iPad for this processing. Apple does not have access to your conversations or memory.

No Other Third Parties

Apart from ElevenLabs (if enabled by the user), Talkie does not share, sell, or transmit any personal data to any third party.

4. Biometric and Facial Data

Talkie does not access your device's camera and does not collect any facial data or facial biometric identification data. The app does not use ARKit, the TrueDepth camera, the Vision framework, or any facial recognition or tracking technology. The only biometric data potentially processed are voice samples sent to ElevenLabs for voice cloning, only with your explicit consent.

5. Data Retention

• Username — retained on-device until manually deleted by the user.
• Conversation transcripts — the last 20 exchanges are retained on-device. Older exchanges are automatically deleted.
• Patient memory and learned memory — retained on-device until manually deleted by the user.
• ElevenLabs API key — retained in the iOS Keychain until manually deleted by the user.
• Voice samples — retained locally until manually deleted. When sent to ElevenLabs for cloning, data is handled according to ElevenLabs' retention policy.
• Microphone audio data — processed in real time and not recorded. No retention.

6. What We Do NOT Do

• No backend server — all data stays on your device (except optional sharing with ElevenLabs).
• No analytics or telemetry collection.
• No advertising.
• No cross-app tracking.
• No sale or sharing of data with third parties (except ElevenLabs if enabled).
• No camera access and no facial data collection.

7. Microphone

Talkie uses the microphone exclusively for speech recognition (Web Speech API). Audio is processed on your device in real time and is never recorded, stored, or transmitted to an external server.

8. Deleting Your Data

You can delete all your data at any time from the app settings (Personal Data section). This removes conversation history, memory, voice samples, and the API key from the iOS Keychain. Deletion is immediate and irreversible.

9. Children

Talkie is not intended for children under 13.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The last updated date will be changed accordingly. We encourage you to review this page regularly.
